Diablo 3 – Farming Gear Set Pieces

Diablo 3 provides different quality gear for your character. The normal gear is divided in Common (white), Magic (blue) and Rare (yellow). Then there are Legendary items (orange), of which a subset is Set gear (green). Set items have bonuses that are applied when you wear multiple items of the same set. Last there are Ancient items, which are juiced up versions of Legendaries. Ancient items can roll up to 30% better stats.

Your goal would be to obtain Ancient Set items. You can wear items from one or two sets (to get different bonuses), complemented by normal Ancient Legendary items.

Season Item Set

Every Season your first Seasonal character will earn 6 Set items basically for free, as part of the Season Journey. Basically, you’re rewarded Set items for obtaining certain achievements as you level your character.

For the current Season 11, the sets are:

  • Barbarian – Wrath of the Wastes
  • Crusader – Roland’s Legacy
  • Demon Hunter – Unhallowed Essence
  • Monk – Raiment of a Thousand Storms
  • Necromancer – Bones of Rathma
  • Witch Doctor – Helltooth Harness
  • Wizard – Tal Rasha’s Elements

Torments

When you increase the difficulty from Normal, Hard, Master, Expert to the Torment levels the drop rate for Legendaries (including the Set items) increases. For a nice overview, check out d3resource.com.

Additionally, if you manage to get a party together consisting of players of the same class (Barbarian, Monk, Wizard, etc.) you can swap loot.

Converting Item Pieces Using Kanai’s Cube

Using the cube you can use it’s “Skill of Nilfur” recipy to convert an item to another item in the same Set. You cannot choose the outcome, so you may need to try this a few times. Each attempt costs 10 Death’s Breath + 10 Forgotten Souls.

Buying Items from Kadala

With Bloodshards earned from running Rifts you can purchase items. The outcome is totally unpredictable. You may get a Common, Magical, Rare, or Legendary item. Even if you get a Set item, it may not be from the Set you are looking for. The costs are 25 Bloodshards for any armor item, 50 Bloodshards for a ring, 75 Bloodshards for a weapon, and 100 Bloodshards for an amulet.

Weapons and amulets are relatively expensive to buy from Kadala. You may wish to use the Upgrade Rare Item option instead. The same applies for amulets. Instead you could use the cube to Convert Item Pieces.

Upgrading Rare Items to Legendaries Using Kanai’s Cube

Using the cube’s “Hope of Cain” recipy you can upgrade a Rare item to a Legendary. Weapons convert to weapons, armor to armor, etc. The cost is 25 Seath’s Breat, and 50 each of Reusable Parts, Arcane Dust, and Veiled Crystal.

Notes:

Kanai’s Cube also has the recipe “Law of Kulle” with which you can reforge (re-roll) your Set item pieces.

Any Torment level has a chance to drop Ancient items. For Torment 10 this is about 10%. And an item gambled from Kadala, crafted by artisans or transmuted in the Kanai’s Cube will always have a 10% chance to be Ancient, unless specifically stated otherwise.
